Was the Death of ‘J. C.’ A Valid Sacrificial Offering?
Monday Night 02-11-2002
Section 2
:Again the Law of Sacrifice in Leviticus specifies that some of the blood of the sin sacrifice had to be rubbed by the Priest with his finger on the horns of the altar. The rest of the blood had to be poured at the foot of the sacrificial altar.
Leviticus 4:30-31
(30) And the priest shall take of the blood there with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out all the blood there at the bottom of the altar.
(31) And he shall take away all the fat there, as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn it upon the altar for a sweet savor to YHWH; and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.
Section 3:
According to the accounts in the N. T., J.C. was beaten, whipped, and dragged on the ground before being crucified (Mt 26:67, 27:26, 30-31; Mk 14:65, 15:15-20; Lk 22:63; Jn 18:22, 19:1-3).
Matthew 26:67
Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the
palms of their hands,
Matthew 27:26,30-31
(26) Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he
delivered him to be crucified.
(30) And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
(31) And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
Mark 14:65
And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to
say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their
hands.
Mark 15:15-20
(15) And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them,
and delivered J.C., when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
(16) And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
(17) And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,
(18) And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
(19) And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.
20) And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.
Luke 22:63
And the men that held J.C. mocked him, and smote him.
John 18:22
And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck J.C. with
the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
John 19:1-3
(1) Then Pilate therefore took J.C., and scourged him.
(2) And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
(3) And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
Once again, the Levitical Law of Sacrifice specifies that the (sin) sacrifice be without any physical defects or blemishes.
Leviticus 4:28
... then he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a female without
blemish, for his sin which he has sinned.
Consider also that according to the New Testament, circumcision is equivalent to mutilation (Gal 5:11-12, Phil 3:2).
Galatians 5:11-12
(11) And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer
persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
(12) I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
Philippians 3:2
Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
However, we know being a Jew by birth, J.C. was circumcised on the eighth day after being born
Genesis 17:10-13
(10) This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your
seed after you; Every male child among you shall be circumcised.
(11) And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a sign
of the covenant between me and you.
(12) And he who is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male child in your generations, he who is born in the house, or bought with money from any stranger, who is not of your seed.
