Aliyah
By David M. Patronis (copyright 2001)
I am far from my home in a land of strangers.
Across endless desert have we traveled, bearing tidings from our Melek to their
Shah.
Waiting endless hours in the courtyard, I am but an emissary from a land
Spoken of
Written of
But, nowhere I look do I see it here
Now it is only a dream of longing, like sand thru my fingers it escapes me when
I awake.
My thoughts burn with desire for the land of my birth
For you, o my wife, and our child.
Are you well?
Let it be G-d’s will.
Is he growing stronger every day, free from evil?
In G-d’s name, let it go up from my lips, and find favour in the ear of Ad-nai.
Finally, the wait is ended, their Shah has received us, and we may return home
to the land of our birth and our Melek.
The hawk flies overhead
If only I could fly as he
With every beat of his wings, I am closer to you.
Flying home across the great desert, over every foreign village.
The beating of his wings.
I am not far from you my love.
Inspired by the poets of ancient Eretz Yisrael, and the traditional Persian poem
and song "Hud, Hud."
